Registered Nurse BSc (Hons) and Registered Nutritionist
About the author
Bernie Mertens is a Registered Nurse BSc (Hons) and Registered Nutritionist with an MSc in Nutrition and Behaviour. She has worked as a nurse since 2019, specialising in digestive health, where she saw first-hand how much of a role nutrition plays in how we feel. Qualifying as a nutritionist in 2023 deepened her understanding of how food affects both body and mind. Her master's research looked at how what we eat relates to cognitive wellbeing and behaviour, with a particular focus on hormones and women's health. Bernie now writes evidence-informed articles on nutrition for brain and gut wellbeing. She believes knowledge is power, and wants to help people understand the value of good nutrition and the everyday habits that support long-term wellbeing.
